3rd Annual Hawaii ALS Yard Sale on August 15

Yes! We are on our third! Please be there!

WHAT: Genormous Yard Sale

WHERE: 244 Akiohala Street, Kailua (off of Keolu Dr. in Enchanted Lake area)

WHEN: This Saturday, 8 am to 2 pm. No early birds, please!

Lots of stuff, gently collected and sorted. Donated items came from families living with ALS and our ohana.

Proceeds go to our piggy bank to help with our needs and activities such as our Christmas party and cookies for our home-bound, and flowers for the hospitalized.

Neat, huh? So, shall we see you there?

9, Tuesday: Regular MDA ALS Support Group Meeting, 5:30-7:30 pm, Queen's Conference Center; Divina Robillard facilitates " Communication Devices," with Kevin Forde-Nihipali discussing Tobii devices. Discussion will also include low- and mid-tech devices. Poltuck; parking FREE across the street at DOH (Kinau Hale).
13, Saturday: MDA Hawaii Annual Soiree Fundraiser; 5:30 pm, Royal Hawaiian Hotel Grounds - Food and Wine-Tasting from different vendors, silent and live auction... Fun semi-formal event on the waterfront hotel grounds; individual tickets @$125 per person, with $55 tax-deductible. More info/register on www.mdasoiree.com

2, Saturday - ANNUAL MDA MUSCLE WALK; 9am to 12 nn; Hawaii State Capitol, along Beretania Street. Show your support for MDA and its services to ALS families in Hawaii. Call 593-4454 for more info. Lots of fun for folks. Roll, run, race, walk, sashay, whatevah! Bring $$ to share, keiki, pets, tutus. Freebies, fun, zumbathon guaranteed. FREE parking at Kinau Hale if you call MDA for the pass you can print. Other parking options will be given. Be there!
12, Tuesday - REGULAR MDA ALS SUPPORT GROUP MEETING; 5:30-7:30 pm, Queen's Conference Center; potluck; FREE parking across the street at Kinau Hale (DOH); please bring something to keep you warm . See you then

March: Where 2010 REALLY Starts

I apologize: Idk where the first two months went. All I know is that I better write something about March before it goes where the other two are.
2, Tuesday - Free Demo: Tobii C Series at Assistive Technology Resource Center, 2-4 pm; 414 Kuwili Street. Parking on Lot at Kaaahi Street (off of Dillingham Blvd.) Tobii is a communication device which can use a varitey of switching methods including eye control. Great opportunity for people who are looking to need a device soon.
9, Tuesday - Regular MDA ALS Support Group Meeting; Queen's Conference Center Rm 204; 5:30-7:30 pm. We will share thoughts generated by our panel discussants' s comments at last month's meetings. Also, we can share our own successful methods for fighting depression and keeping it together while living with ALS. Potluck, as usual. Let Divina know if you need a parking permit for the QCC lot. Also bring/wear warm clothes (they keep the place cool to keep the machines happy:) See you all there!
12, Friday - Aloha Friday Pau Hana and Farewell Sunset Potluck Dinner for Renee and Joe Cochran who are moving to Las Vegas to be near family; Ala Moana Beach Park; Will try to arrange for Site Number 31 (our favorite across the concession stand, Waikiki-side of the park, close to the bathroom and parking lot for Magic Island. Time: Dinner is at 5:30 pm. but Nancy and Divina will set up at 3 so you can be there around that time, too... Map will be posted ASAP. Look for the MDA banner! Come one, come all! Great way to welcome Spring!
27, Saturday - Cardmaking Crafternoon, 2pm; Penny Chun's home at 39-A Niolopa Place. Guaranteed fun-filled as we make cards for our own use as well as for HALS to send to our ohana. There will be lots of talk story, munching and more talk story and yes, lots to laugh about. And yes, we will also produce greeting cards:) Please bring a pair of scissors, any craft paper you may have and ONE (1) ingredient (other than greens) for a salad that Penny will put together. Not so fast now, November!

Somewhere towards the end of November, we truly get into the Christmas zone - my happiest time of the year. This year will be less happy as our daughter, her husband and our three little angels - DJ, Tiki and newborn Z-boy - will be having their first white Christmas in Washington. But the traditions that ring in this time of the year will keep us all light-hearted and jolly as we think of our loved ones far from home creating their own Christmas traditions that will keep their own families warm and comfortable throughout the years. Then of course, there's Thanksgiving! The time we not only eat turkey&co. but also remind ourselves all the blessings we got through the year, especially those that came in disguise (like ALS)...

We will have GRRRREAT panel composed of Dr. Dan Davis, internist, better known as Peggy Chun's doctor; Kathy Krammer, Queen's Speech Therapist, and Dianne Brenessel, Queen's Respiratory Therapist. 26, Thursday - Happy Thanksgiving day! Enjoy turkey, family and other heart-warming things. But please don't forget to reflect on events, gifts, graces, blessings, etc. that we have received over the year and give thanks for them!
